How well is your Awestruck Button Working?
How well is your awestruck button working? When I joined the AJC last year and went to the first live weekend, I felt like the kid in the Hans Christian Andersen story, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. Everyone was saying how amazing it was. Yet I couldn’t see it.
The weird thing was that the more experienced someone was, the more they got out of the school. I wondered if there was something wrong with me, like my “Awestruck Button” not working.
Fast forward to the 3rd weekend, and I couldn’t sign up fast enough for this year’s school.
What encourages me is that Ankush Jain himself recently described something similar. In a webinar he did for an online community for Life Coaches, he remembered a time when he had attended an event by a successful coach. People were saying it was amazing, but he didn’t get it.
Much later on he had gone back and looked at his notes. He said, “I saw the gold and I had missed it. Years later I paid him thousands per session.” He used to fly from the UK to the US for his in person sessions.
Next time you are underwhelmed while attending an event, watching a video or listening to an audio, remember to check your Awestruck button. It may just be that it needs fine tuning. YOu might need to do some self reflection. And as they say in AJC, “Bring your highest listening.” That’s how you find the gold.
